The elected candidates will serve on the CSO Executive Board for the 2025-2026 school year.
Co-Presidents (2)
Virginia Lee - My name is Virginia, and I am a third year cellist and biology major in CSO! I am also your current co-president!! This past year, I have been so lucky to serve as your co-president, and I have learned so much about all the behind-the-scenes work that goes behind running the symphony. Last year, I served on the executive board as your Chamber Director where I grew our chamber program from one (my own) to eight groups, managed our Megachamber ensemble, and organized performances around Grounds for our groups, including a wedding, the Second Year Dinner Series, and string accompaniment for a local opera. This year as president, I was able to further grow the organization, delegation, and teamwork skills I learned as Chamber Director as well as practice new skills in on-the-fly problem solving, conflict resolution, and large-group management. Furthermore, I have lots of projects in the works for this coming year if I were to continue my term, including a CSO scholarship to support local music programs at public elementary/middle schools!
Sarah Phommachanthone - Hey everyone, I’m Sarah! I am a 3rd-year majoring in Foreign Affairs and Art History with a Minor in French, and I’m currently the Strings Performance Director.
I am running for the position of Co-President because I truly believe that I have a strong vision of what the orchestra is and everything that it can be! As a Co-President, I would put my all towards ensuring that CSO remains a successful ensemble with great concerts and an enjoyable space to be in every Sunday. I would proudly represent CSO as a Co-President, and I hope you’ll consider me for this role!
Krishna Girish Kumar - Hello guys, I’m Krishna Girish Kumar, and I’m a third-year majoring in Biochemistry and Applied Statistics. I’m currently serving as your concert manager this year and served as the communications chair last year, and I would like to further my commitment to CSO by running for co-president next year. Having been on the executive board for the past year and a half, I have developed a good understanding of all the positions and their responsibilities, which I believe is important for managing a board with a wide range of responsibilities like ours. Additionally, throughout my time as communications chair and concert manager, I have also strengthened my communications skills within and outside of CSO. Since a large part of the co-president's responsibilities involves ensuring that the executive board, as a whole, is working towards our goals, I think my strong communication skills will be beneficial. If I get elected as co-president, I would like to make sure that we gather more feedback from our members and implement it into how we organize our rehearsals and concerts. In addition to creating an open space within the orchestra, I would also like to make our mission known outside of the orchestra through community service projects and involving ourselves more in the UVA music scene.
Treasurer
Andrew Chand - Hi everybody! It’s Andrew Chand, running for re-election as CSO’s treasurer. My main goals for my next term would be to continue more of the same: keeping up with securing school funding for all the orchestra’s needs, being sure to allocate and plan for plenty of social funding, and perhaps my primary goal of transparency. As this is my first semester as treasurer, I have not yet released any of the financial data for the whole club. However, this is something I plan to do over winter break, and to continue to do in the future!
Performance Directors (2)
Jeffrey Wooters - My name is Jeffrey Wooters and I am the incumbent Communications Chair of CSO. I also serve on the Governance Board of Brown College and in my free time I study Biochemistry on the pre-health track.
I am running for Performance Director mainly because I want to make sure that musicality - the core of CSO - is still central to its mission. Though we are a well-functioning organization, I want to use my musical experience to help the strings achieve new heights of technique and expression and hopefully bring out the capacity of every member of this orchestra to make incredible music. I have valuable leadership experience in the violin and viola sections, and I believe my 15 years of violin and viola playing make me well-suited to the role.
Social (Spring 2025)
Macy Moore - My name is Macy Moore, I am a first-year majoring in data science, and I am running for Social Chair for the upcoming semester! I play violin for CSO but I also play electric guitar and am the bassist for my band, Scarlet Fever (we are @scarletfevercville on Instagram if you want to check us out 🙂). Being able to plan and attend social events as an ensemble is definitely one of my favorite things about CSO, and I would love to help organize fan-favorite events like Murder Mystery parties, as well as trips to watch concerts/other local orchestras perform, movie nights, and other new suggestions that members might like to do together. I'm super excited for next semester and all the fun we will have along the way!
